Cotton Incorporated Grant
The OSU Fashion Show is proud to recognize the support senior apparel design students received through a Cotton Incorporated Cotton in the Curriculum grant, which supported students as they created their collections.
The grant provided funding for seniors to purchase cotton fabrics to use in their collections, helping reduce material costs while encouraging hands-on exploration of cotton textiles. In addition, the grant supports two awards that will be presented at the OSU Fashion Show, recognizing senior collections that incorporate cotton or cotton-dominant fabrics.
The grant allowed students to gain valuable experience working with cotton as a fiber. Each fabric behaves differently depending on fiber content. Therefore, working with cotton helped students better understand drape, manipulation, and garment construction, skills that they can carry into their future careers.
The grant also supported conversations around sustainability and material choice. Cotton, as a renewable and durable fiber, contributes to garments that are breathable, comfortable, and designed to last longer. This longevity can help reduce waste and extend the lifecycle of clothing. By increasing access to cotton, the grant helped students think more critically about durability, sustainability, and long-term consumer use.
